Students can earn an additional 5 credits in CS 590, if recommended by your Advisory Committee. Students can also earn an additional 2 credits in CS 620, if recommended by your Advisory Committee. Those additional credits will count toward the Additional Courses requirement.
Additional Information
- The MR Advisory Committee must include 3 graduate faculty members at NC State. The Chair or co-Chair must be a full graduate faculty member in Crop Science. An employee of the USDA may be a committee member or co-Chair, but not a sole Chair.
- All courses counted toward the degree must be NC State or inter-institutional courses. At least 18 hours must be letter-graded with grades of C- or better (grades below B must be rare). Other S/U courses must be graded ‘S, satisfactory’.
- Upon Advisory Committee and DGP approval, up to 6 credit hours from relevant NC State 400-level courses may be used. Any 400-level courses included must: not have CS prefixes; be graded B or better; and not have been used to fulfill undergraduate requirements.
- For CS 620Special Problems , your Advisor will help you formulate an appropriate topic for a written literature review, which you will submit to them by the last class day of the registration semester. The quality and length of your review must correspond to the registered hours, e.g. reflecting a least 135 hours of effort for a 3-credit registration.
- Under specific conditions, 3 hours of CS 693 Master's Supervised Research are allowed, but not required. To receive credit, you must formulate a research plan with your Advisor before enrollment, receive approval to proceed from your Advisory Committee, and earn an ‘S’ on a written research report or publicly presented research poster. The research project must be part of the basis of your final exam.
- You may not count CS 695 or CS 688/CS 689, CS 690, CS 696, CS 699 towards the 36 hours required for the MR degree.
- A maximum of 6 years is allowed to earn the MR degree.
- An NC State cumulative GPA of 3.000 or better is required for graduation.
