French (Certificate)
A four-semester program of study in French as a second language to allow undergraduate
students to develop competence in and knowledge of the French language, increased
understanding and appreciation of French and Francophone cultures and greater knowledge of
the countries where French is spoken. This program is open to undergraduates in any major
and of any class standing.
Plan Requirements
- A total of 12 semester hours is required; at least six credit hours must be taken at NC State. The remaining credit hours may be taken through affiliate programs (e.g. the UNC Language Exchange or an NC State Study Abroad program).

- Students who place into WLFR 202 may consider pursuing the French Minor instead of the certificate.
- There are no other required examinations, presentations, or external learning experiences.
- Satisfactory completion of the certificate program requires:
- completion of the coursework noted above
- a grade of C-or better in all courses used to satisfy the certificate requirements
- an overall GPA of 2.0 or better for all courses used to satisfy the certificate requirements
