Meteorology (Minor)
The Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences offers a minor in Meteorology to majors in any field except meteorology. This program provides a means of recognition for students in related fields, especially Science and Engineering, who are interested in application of physical principles to the atmospheric environment.
Admissions
To be admitted to the program, a student must have a GPA of at least 2.0 and a grade of C or better in MA 141 Calculus and in PY 205 Physics for Engineers and Scientists. Application for admission to any University minor program is now available via MyPack Portal. Admission will be based upon the student’s academic record, and in most cases no longer requires departmental review. Go to Add a Minor to apply.
Requirements for Completion of the Minor
Students must complete MEA 215 Introduction to Atmospheric Sciences, MEA 312 Atmospheric Thermodynamics, MEA 421 Atmospheric Dynamics I and at least 4 additional credit hours from MEA courses in Atmospheric Sciences at the 300-level or higher. All course work must be letter-graded and completed with a C or better.
